JUNIOR PROGRAM

The BMA Junior Program is an official U.S. Ski and Snowboard member club offering weekday and weekend training/racing for alpine skiers ages 7-15. Our development program supports youth ski racing progression in a fun, healthy, and safe environment that fosters a life-long love of the sport. 

The Junior Program utilizes a fundamentals-based ski curriculum; the goal is to create avenues for children to develop skills and habits that will engender future success both in ski racing and in other pursuits. Families provide the core strength of our Junior Program, and we rely on their volunteerism and support for our success.

Our program's core philosophy revolves around all-mountain skiing, skill acquisition, confidence in various conditions, and technique/technical discovery. The program also provides age and skill-appropriate gate training progressions in conjunction with directed, highly valuable free skiing, as there is a strong correlation between the volume of skiing as a young child and achievement at the high school level and beyond.

PROGRAMMING AND REGISTRATION

Our U8 program provides a two-day option for athletics only.

  • Includes programming for Saturday, and Sunday training.
  • Regular attendance is not required, but highly encouraged.
  • Burke Mountain racer pass required.

Our U10 program provides a three-day option for athletics only.

  • Includes programming for Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday training.
  • Regular attendance is not required, but highly encouraged.
  • Coaches travel to VARA Northern Vermont Council (NVC) races and other competitions, supporting athletes ready and involved in race environments.
  • Burke Mountain racer pass is required.

Our U12 program provides a five-day option for athletics only:

  • Includes programming for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, and Saturday and Sunday training. Friday programming is restricted, and we highly discourage six days of training for children of these ages. Regular attendance is expected.
  • A higher emphasis on structure, coaching intensity, and athlete commitment.
  • Includes summer and fall Camp eligibility. November Colorado camp participation is highly recommended.
  • A Burke Mountain racer pass is required; three-day option is also available.

All families also pay a $100 Club Membership fee.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration will open on June 1 for returning participants and new five-Day U12s. Registration will open for new members on August 1.

Registration will be capped for U8 participation to a max of eight. Registration caps for other age groups will be managed on a coach athlete ratio to ensure program quality.

BMA JUNIOR PROGRAM MEMBERSHIP GRANT PROGRAM 

Through the generosity of Burke Mountain Academy community donors, we now have a grant program for the Junior Program. This grant program is intended to ensure that local (NEK) children have the opportunity to participate without cost becoming a prohibitive variable. Local families are essential to the quality of the program and the culture of the club and the hope is that this grant program encourages local participation. BMA has secured funding up to $10,000 in financial support for these local families for at least the next three years and hope to increase that fund long term. FOCUSED ON CULTURE

Junior Program Director Diann Roffe 

With extensive experience representing the United States in Olympic and World Championships, Roffe embodies passion and appreciation for ski racing and brings administrative experience running a program of 100 athletes and 22 coaches at Ski Roundtop in Pennsylvania. 

With a strong focus on fundamentals, BMA's Junior Program teaches the importance of being a technically solid skier and the power of a good team culture. 

DECEMBER DEVELOPMENT CAMP

Each December, BMA hosts over 100 aspiring ski racers for three days of focused, small-group training at our world-class venue with racing opportunities and a full boarding experience as part of our December Development Camp.
