POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
ADMISSIONS PROCESS AND POLICY
(last edit - Jan 2023)
The following describes the process and policies related to applying to BMA:
Students and families who wish to attend BMA are asked to complete an admissions application and complete the admissions process which includes the submission of grades/transcripts, recommendations, short answers, and a campus visit and admissions interviews. Due to the fact that we are an alpine ski academy, we also ask that applicants do an on-snow session with us and in general require applicants to be competitive alpine skiers.
It is standard that BMA received more applicants than we have space to admit. It is our policy that all applicants are reviewed by the admissions committee. Factors that determine admittance include but are not limited to academic performance and demonstrated interest in learning, technical and tactical skiing ability, and strong character and community fit. Enrollment targets and compositional makeup may also play a role.
Burke Mountain Academy admits qualified students of any gender, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law, and extends to them all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the Academy. The Academy does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, creed, color, national and ethnic origin, disability, or any other status protected by applicable law in the administration of its educational, admissions, financial aid, athletic, and other policies or programs.
If applicable, upon a student's acceptance for enrollment, the student's IEP team shall meet to determine how the student's services shall be provided. BMA and the LEA shall follow the procedures in 2229.4, after which the student shall be enrolled in the approved independent school or, upon the decision of the hearing officer in Rule 2229.4(f), below, the IEP team shall consider an alternative enrollment for the student. Furthermore, when a publicly funded student seeks to attend BMA after the start of the school year, upon the student's acceptance for enrollment, the student shall be provisionally enrolled consistent with the procedures in Rule 2229.4, during which time the LEA of residence shall agree to pay tuition on the student's behalf until the procedures in 2229.4 have been completed and the student is enrolled, or until the hearing officer issues a decision pursuant to subsection Rule 2229.4(f).
