Science and Math STEM Teacher

Title: Burke Mountain Academy STEM Teacher

Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), a co-ed elite ski academy located in East Burke, VT, with approximately 70 students, is seeking a full-time STEAM and Math Teacher for the 2024-25 school year.

BMA uniquely designs its college preparatory academic program to support the development of world-class skiers. The program values critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and strong communication skills across all subjects to foster lifelong learning in students. Instead of providing grades, faculty give individualized written feedback narratives focused on personal growth.

The ideal candidate will teach a range of science and math courses at the high school level, such as Physics, Chemistry, Data Science, Computer Programming, Life Sciences, Qualitative Reasoning, or others along the STEM curriculum. Class sizes range from 6-12 students, providing opportunities for curriculum development and design to best meet student needs. Successful teachers embrace flexibility and creativity in delivering academic content to athletes who frequently travel for ski racing and training.

For over 50 years, BMA has championed ski racers' pursuit of greatness, innovating one of the world's premier ski racing programs. Ideal candidates lead by example - joining morning workouts, cherished traditions like the Green Mountain Run, volunteering on race crew, cultivating vibrant student life, and sparking BMA's signature camaraderie.

Responsibilities

Teach three or four preps for the 2024-25 school year.
Provide narrative-based feedback for students.
Participate in weekly faculty meetings and collaborate with a small faculty team to create project-based and experiential learning curriculum across all courses.
Advise approximately four students.
Perform the requisite number of weekday and weekend duties required of all faculty and staff as part of a residential school community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in math or related field and at least one year of high school math teaching experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation depends on experience.
Access to athletic facilities, a season pass at Burke Mountain, and Kingdom Trails.
Medical insurance and employer-funded HSA.
On-campus housing pending availability.
Meals when Dining Hall is in service.
Retirement Plan, including up to 7% employer match.

Learning Specialist

Title: Learning Specialist

Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), a co-ed elite ski academy located in East Burke, VT, with approximately 70 students, is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist for the 2024-25 school year.

BMA uniquely designs its college preparatory academic program to support the development of world-class skiers. The program values critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and strong communication skills across all subjects to foster lifelong learning in students. Instead of providing grades, faculty members give students individualized written feedback narratives focused on personal growth.

The Learning Specialist at BMA is a two-part role, that involves teaching high school courses and leading the Learning Support Tutorial. This tutorial is designed to help students become active participants in their academic careers. It serves as a resource for students with documented learning differences or those for whom English is a second language. The ultimate goal is to meet students where they are and help them develop the skills necessary to be independently successful in their future academic endeavors.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Building supportive, trusting relationships with students.
Help students develop effective learning strategies that promote academic improvement.
Building student metacognitive and efficacy skills, as well as self-advocacy skills.
Assessing students to identify those who have learning differences.
Educating and updating parents/guardians and teachers about students' progress.
Reading neuropsych testing documents and identifying proper interventions.
Collaborating with faculty to support students in the classrooms.
Applying for accommodations on standardized tests (SAT /ACT).
Keeping current with developments in teaching methods and educational psychology.
Teaching two high school preps.

Qualifications:
