Burke Mountain Academy (BMA), a co-ed elite ski academy in East Burke, VT, is seeking a full-time humanities teacher for the 2025-26 school year. For over 50 years, BMA has championed ski racers chasing greatness, developing one of the world's premier ski racing programs.
BMA’s academic program is fully integrated with its athletic and cultural goals, supporting the growth of student-athletes through individualized learning. The program emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, intrinsic motivation, and strong communication skills across all subjects to foster lifelong learning. Instead of traditional grades, faculty provide personalized written feedback narratives, focusing on each student’s progress and personal development.
The ideal candidate teaches a range of humanities courses at the middle and high school level, including middle school English and Social Studies and 9th-grade English, as well as supports young student-athletes with time management and communication skills. This position also requires coordinating with sending schools and families for winter-term students. Class sizes range from six to twelve students, designed to build strong relationships between students and staff. Due to our unique schedule, faculty are empowered to develop unique and creative curriculum for each course and share their passion for their subject matter with students. Successful teachers embrace flexibility and innovation in delivering academic content to athletes who frequently travel for ski racing.

They help student-athletes reach their full potential athletically and academically and uphold BMA's ethos, where hard work is paramount, risking failure is embraced, and building strong character takes precedence over achievements. Faculty love BMA's distinct, close-knit community and participate in a range of campus activities, including community meals in the dining hall, organizing student activities in the local area, joining workouts, traveling to training camps, participating in school traditions like the Green Mountain Run, and volunteering on race crew. Responsibilities Responsibilities
- Teach 7th and 8th grade winter term English, social studies, and 8th and 9th grade full year English.
- Design and deliver remote and in-person curricula.
- Provide narrative-based feedback for students.
- Participate in weekly faculty meetings and collaborate with a small faculty team to create project-based and experiential learning curricula across all courses.
- Advises approximately four students.
- Be an active participant in boarding school life and school initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, English, History, or related field and at least one year of teaching experience.
