Trust, Respect and Responsibility - It’s What We Ask That Matters Most
It has been said that the greatest gift to our children is not what we give to them but what we ask of them. We ask that Burke students be committed to contributing to the individuals around them and the community that they themselves collectively shape. The question we ask our students to explore daily is not, what can I get from others, but, what can I give...how can I make a difference within the Burke community? It is clearly our belief that success at Burke in the classroom, on the race course and within the community - begins with character. And we believe that a community that values and promotes Trust, Respect and Responsibility over simply enforcing a set of rules and regulations will provide the best environment for young student athletes to flourish.
The expectations for Burke students are high. As one parent put it, “...the responsibility of personal commitment becomes the responsibility of the individual. The expectations are clear. Each individual must live up to the standard of respect, and contribute to the vigor and honesty of the entire Burke community. The reward is a supportive community, where hard work and commitment to athletics, academics and community is held in the highest regard.”
Our mission at Burke is to encourage a life long commitment to excellence and passionate effort in every endeavor, and a deep sense of the importance of contribution to community that our students will take with them into the wider world. Our sense of community is an element that sets us apart from other athletic and academic institutions and establishes Burke’s truly unique niche in American education.
